Automatic Door Repairs and Upgrades

Automatic doors are generally very reliable if they are fitted well and maintained properly.

ADI doors and automation can provide you with an honest evaluation of your current doors and offer a solution, which will make your doors work safely, smoothly and reliably.

From a simple safety check to servicing and a full upgrade when repairs are not possible or cost effective.

Automatic doors can stop working or develop faults.

Quite often they will start to close and then re-open again. Stay in the open position or just not work at all.

Although these may be annoying problems, they are quite often straight forward and low cost repairs.

Some common faults with automatic doors

The doors open and stay in the open position.

Some things you can check for yourself are:

  • The program switch - check that the digital door programmer or key-switch is set for automatic operation.

  • Ensure that there are no obstructions in the way of the door safety or activation sensors. Things like tables, pot plants or point of sales stands that get moved too close to the entrance can quite often cause this issue.

  • Clean the safety sensors and activation sensors with a damp cloth - spider webs or dirt on the sensor lenses can obstruct the optics and prevent the doors from closing.

  • Check that any other activation devices such as break-glass units have not been inadvertently triggered and need resetting. Make sure that any push buttons  or exit pads are not stuck in. Check the batteries in any wireless push pads as need replacing.

The doors Start to close, but keep on re-opening

Sometimes sliding doors will start to close and then re-open again on their own, this cycle will keep repeating.

This fault is almost always a problem with the safety sensors which protect the space between the doors:

Some things you can check for yourself are:

  • Ensure that there are no obstructions on the floor area between the doors or in the areas in front and behind the sliding door leaves.

  • Clean the threshold safety sensors with a damp cloth - spider webs or dirt on the sensor lenses can obstruct the optics and prevent the doors from closing. For swing doors the on-door safety sensors may need cleaning.

The doors close, but open slowly (sliding doors)

This is most commonly caused by something being placed or left at the rear of the sliding door leaves. The door sensors see any objects as an obstruction and go slowly to prevent injury, make sure the area is clear and the doors should return to the normal opening speed.

The doors do nothing

Check that the mains electrical supply is switched on, this can sometimes be inadvertently turned off at the supply or could be tripped at the consumer unit.

Check that any key switches or program selectors are set to the correct setting.
